Job Description: The E.W. Scripps Multimedia Fellowship Program

Are you interested in beginning your media career inside a multimedia newsroom or interactive operation?

The E. W. Scripps Company’s Newspaper Division is pleased to introduce a fellowship program with opportunities in its newspaper and interactive operations in 14 markets across the United States:

Abilene, Texas
Anderson, South Carolina
Bremerton (Kitsap), Washington
Corpus Christi, Texas
Evansville, Indiana
Henderson, Kentucky
Knoxville, Tennessee
Memphis, Tennessee
Naples, Florida
Redding, California
San Angelo, Texas
Treasure Coast (Stuart), Florida
Ventura, California
Wichita Falls, Texas

This twenty-four week paid program includes positions as multimedia journalists, online producers, web developers, web design/user experience specialists and copy editors/page designers. Assistance with relocation expenses of up to $500 will be provided.

Eligibility requirements for all positions include:
>An undergraduate degree in journalism, computer science or a related field
>Basic computer research skills
>Detail oriented
>Successful contributor to the workplace and/or the academic environment with ability to effectively collaborate with team members
>Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include travel, overtime, weekends and holidays.
>Willingness to learn

Additional eligibility requirements for multimedia journalists and online producers include:
>Demonstrated ability in writing, videography and/or still photography
>Broad understanding of libel laws and journalism ethics

Additional eligibility requirements for web development fellowships include:
>A sound understanding of development and programming, including proficiency in HTML/XHTML and CSS

Additional eligibility requirements for web design/user experience fellowships include:
>Proficiency in HTML/XHTML and CSS and a keen interest in learning and understanding user-centric design; strong eye for design and detail

Additional eligibility requirements for copy editor/ page designer fellowships include:
>Proficiency with copy editing and headline writing as well as familiarity with design software such as InDesign.

Through guidance from management, fellows will develop a broad understanding of newspaper and online operations. Upon successful conclusion of the fellowship, participants will be eligible to apply for available full-time positions within the Newspaper Division of The E.W. Scripps Company.
