CNN Washington – The Situation Room Fellowship

Program Mission: The Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Fellowship Program seeks to attract the best and the brightest first-year Broadcasting/Journalism masters students. Diverse students are encouraged to apply. Our goal is to mentor students and give each individual exposure to real projects and corporate executives in key growth business divisions. As a result, it is our hope that students will return to TBS, Inc. in a full-time capacity following graduation.
Pay: Students will be paid a rate of $25.00/hour during the three month period of the summer.
Program Highlights: As a part of our program, students will participate in several speaker series and social events specially designed to provide networking opportunities with top executives and exposure to diverse departments throughout the company. Students will be challenged to think creatively and develop necessary skills to succeed in the news industry.
Fellowship Opportunity: CNN Washington- The Situation Room
The Situation Room, hosted by Wolf Blitzer, airs weekdays on CNN and assembles top CNN correspondents, analysts, contributors and guests for complete, up-to-the minute coverage of the day's events. A Masters Fellow with The Situation Room would get the opportunity to experience real hands-on, day-to-day experience as Associate Producer for the live daily news program.
As an Associate Producer Fellow, the student will research and identify video clips, update video rundowns, cut sound bites and vo's, produce in-house and natural sound packages, order and create graphics, and call up and roll video live to air via control-room video servers. The AP will also be called upon to oversee the production of fonts and graphics for the broadcast. The Masters Fellowship Program AP will get the chance to work on a variety of projects from quick turn breaking news stories to longer term, in depth reports. They will be mentored by some of the most talented producers and correspondents working at CNN today.
Student should have knowledge of and interest in Washington news, the key players in politics, and public affairs. Must demonstrate strong on-line research skills, and problem-solving capabilities. Experience operating in the control room of a live broadcast is a plus. Must be team-oriented, able to take direction from producers and control room personnel, capable of meeting deadlines and functioning calmly in high-pressure situations including breaking news.
