The Independent Media Internship Program

The Media Consortium's Independent Media Internship program is for undergrad and graduate students committed to smart, independent journalism. Interns will be matched with a Media Consortium member organization (magazine, online news site, television network, radio network/program) for three months in Summer or Fall of 2009. We are placing interns in Washington DC, New York and San Francisco. Interns are responsible for their own lodgings and can mark location preference in the application.

The Media Consortium is a network of over 40 leading, independent media outlets, including The Nation, Talking Points Memo, The American Prospect, Link TV, Air America and Mother Jones. For a full list of our members, please visit: http://www.themediaconsortium.org/our-members/

Interns will receive a stipend of $2,000 for twelve 32-hour work weeks. Over this three month period, interns will complete one or more major editorial projects, have weekly duties (including fact-checking, research, writing and media production) and meet with top editors and reporters for mentoring sessions. Four individuals will be placed in our Summer program (May 18-August 14) and another four will be placed in our Fall program (September 14-December 11). We are accepting applications for both semesters.
Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of college or have completed undergrad or grad school within the last year. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and place a high priority on maintaining a diverse and non-discriminatory environment. Applications for this Summer are due April 9th, 2009.

The application is here: http://www.themediaconsortium.org/internship-application/.
