NABJ Summer Program Assistants

Position: Program Assistant(Summer Intern)
Duration: May – July 2009
Openings: Multiple
Responsibilities: An NABJ Program Assistant (P.A.) plays a key role in the implementation of programs at the National Association of Black Journalists in Adelphi, Maryland.

In the office, they assist in the coordination and production of convention workshops, plenary sessions and awards programs at the national convention - contacting print, online and broadcast journalism organizations for production materials necessary for convention producers.

The candidate is also involved within the coordination of the NABJ National Media Awards, including its organization, judging and production. Onsite at the national convention and career fair, the candidate plays a crucial role with producers in awards distribution, session logistics and on-going development of the convention.

Program Assistants also participate in additional duties as assigned, including necessary administrative and member service functions of the convention.

Program Assistants will attend the 2009 Annual Convention and Career fair in Tampa, FL, August 5 – 9, 2009.

Candidate must be a current or recent undergraduate at an accredited college/university.

Candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, intermediate Microsoft Office experience, can work in a high-impact environment, and possess a professional office demeanor.

Program Assistants will work within the following departments of NABJ:

Programs
The Programs department manages all NABJ programming including the annual conventions, Media Institutes, awards, scholarships and fellowships. Program Assistants will be involved in the coordination of convention programs such as the Hall of Fame and Salute to Excellence Awards banquets. This position requires a high level of detail and heavy research gathering skills.

Communications
The Communications department manages all official communication and marketing efforts of the organization. Program Assistants will be involved in the production of the NABJ Journal, member eblasts, and conventional marketing materials.

Membership
The Membership department serves as the primary customer support to the membership. Program Assistants will be involved in distribution of new member packets, database management, and assist with general membership issues.
