Program Description
The CBCF/Wal-Mart Emerging Leaders Internship Program seeks to enhance the political education of college undergraduates and recent graduates so that they can better serve their local communities. This semester-long program brings young, emerging leaders to Washington, D.C., to learn up close the function of government, the public policymaking process, and the importance of participatory decision-making on a local level. Past interns have served at various capacities at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and congressional offices on Capitol Hill. In addition to the work experience, CBCF/Wal-Mart Emerging Leaders Interns attend educational seminars that focus on domestic and international issues, leadership-training sessions and visit cultural and historical sites in the Washington, D.C., area. As a team, the interns must participate in a community service project.
