THE WALL STREET JOURNAL (U.S.)
Internships are aimed at undergraduates or recent graduates who intend a career in journalism. To apply for this internship please submit a cover letter, resume and six to eight writing samples. We will select about 15 interns for the summer 2011 program. The selection process is highly competitive and most of those chosen have had prior internships with other newspapers as well as extensive experience on a campus newspaper. The internships are for ten-week periods in June, July and August. The pay is $700.00 a week.
The screening process puts heavy emphasis on clips and journalistic experience. Only the applicants who are selected for final consideration will be contacted. We will complete the selection process by the end of December.
ART INTERNS: We also accept photo, infographics, video and art internship applications. Applicants should include samples of their work. Video applicants should email links to their videos or portfolios to a.najberg@wsj.com.

The 2011 Sports Journalism Institute Application Deadline
The 2011 Sports Journalism Institute is a nine-week training and internship program for college students interested in sports journalism careers. The Institute is designed to attract talented students to print journalism through opportunities in sports reporting and editing and enhance racial and gender diversity in sports

The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists Griot Drum
Do you know a journalism student of color with a tie to the Tampa Bay area?
Might they want some serious $$ for school this year? They now have until
October 10 to do something about it.
The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists have extended our Griot Drum
Scholarship deadline to Oct. 10. We are giving away $5,000 in
scholarships, including one award for graduate students.
TBABJ to distribute $5,000 to minority journalism students, including a
first-ever graduate student scholarship award.
Because of growing demand, TBABJ will give away its first scholarship to a
graduate journalism student this year for $1,000. In addition, two
undergraduate students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship and one
undergraduate student will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Our desire is to empower young journalists of color to join the ranks of
the working press. Please encourage all high school seniors, undergraduate
and graduate students of color (African American, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) to
apply for this contest by OCT. 10, 2010. Applications must be postmarked by
this date to be considered.
Scholarship winners will be announced this year during TBABJ’s Griot Drum

2011 Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation is accepting applications for the 2011 Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program. This intensive summer program provides college students with an opportunity to work on policy issues in a congressional office and to engage in original health policy research and analysis under the guidance of Foundation research staff.
College seniors and recent college graduates who have a strong interest in addressing racial and ethnic health disparities or who are themselves a member of a population that is adversely affected by racial and ethnic health disparities are eligible to apply. Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens who will be seniors or recent graduates of an accredited U.S. college or university by the fall of 2011. Individuals with a graduate degree and those individuals currently enrolled in a graduate degree program are not eligible to participate. The application deadline is 5 p.m. ET on Friday, December 3, 2010. Application materials and more information are available online.
Selected Scholars will work in congressional offices in Washington, D.C. for 10 weeks and will participate in weekly seminars and site visits designed to increase their understanding of the intersection between policy and the legislative process. Scholars are expected to write and present a health policy research paper in one of the following research areas: health reform and the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare or HIV/AIDS. Housing is provided through Howard University, the Foundation’s partner in operating the program.
The Kaiser Family Foundation established the Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program to honor the legacy of Barbara Jordan – the first African American elected to Congress from Texas and a well-respected former member of the Foundation’s board of trustees. Barbara Jordan had a distinguished career exemplified by her tireless advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations. She brought this passion to her work, inspiring other to become involved in addressing challenging health policy issues.
